It was hot and humid in KY for the first half of August, and I figured the weather would be better in Socal. It usually is this time of year. But looking at the forecast for the remainder of August, no such luck. We’re having one of the all-time heat waves. We often get 2-3 days above 90 degrees, but the next week it’s all heat, all the time. The only bright spot is that with clear skies, black body radiation cools things off at night enough to open the windows and get some non-AC relief. This is a very unusual weather pattern – haven’t seen one like this in 25 years. It’s hot, but it could be worse – at least I’m not in a Texas prison.

In better news, UK landed Mark Mitchell yesterday. Mitchell, an all-SEC power forward, makes UK a genuine top-10 contender for the upcoming season. Mark Pope’s offseason recruiting has been slow but spectacular. And we have a new marketing meme for the front line, The M&M Gang: Mark Mitchell, Malachi Moreno, and Milan Momsilovic. An NIL deal with M&Ms is inevitable.
Cory Doctorow has just published an interesting essay about being lucky versus being smart, correlation versus causation, and the impending burst of the AI bubble. He has an interesting mind – always good reading.
This article about Idaho pastor Doug Wilson is fucking scary. His views are Old Testament biblical, and he’s a major influence on our shithead Secretary of War, Doug Hegseth. It’s like these people want to live in prehistoric times. I feel sorry for their poor brainwashed kids.
