Obvious, except to conservatives

There’s no global warming (or climate change, or whatever the fuck label you want to place on it), but Europe and the UK are cooking, burning. The US from west coast to east coast is cooking, burning. Locally, Louisville is having an epically hot summer. Phoenix has been labelled “dangerous” due to 105+ degree days for about three months straight. My conservative friends will now admit that yes, the climate is changing, but they stridently say there’s no proof whatsoever that humanity has caused it. Hmmm. I need to start carrying this graph around to flash at them. The Industrial Revolution and production/consumption of oil, plus unrestricted cutting of forests, kicked into high gear in the 1950s after WW2. The result looks pretty obvious, right? Apparently conservatives have a cognition problem, unable to see cause and effect.

If we started radically changing things right now, this second, it would take about 30 years for the trends to start reversing. That’s called momentum, in this case thermal momentum. The world is a very large system. Unfortunately, Convict Donny and his band of evil idiots are doing the exact opposite. Removing incentives for solar and wind power, removing incentives for EV production. Removing restrictions on logging and mining on federal lands, national parks and forests. Adding incentives for coal mining, for fuck’s sake. It’s as if they were put here to destroy the world, and they’re doing their best.

Destruction of the environment is the thing that gets me the most worked up about politics. We all live on a giant spaceship, a closed system surrounded by a cold, dark, hostile universe. If we ruin the place we live, we don’t have any Plan B. This is pretty obvious to me, and it boggles the mind that so many people just ignore what’s happening and vote for the despoilers.

Get out and vote liberal every chance you get. Your children and grandchildren’s lives depend on it.
