2024 eclipse from Indiana and Texas

My brother and I just got back from a successful eclipse journey. We drove from Louisville north on I-65 to Austin, IN with only minor traffic problems. On the way back we headed straight east through Amish country and to route 421 south, back into KY via the bridge at Madison IN. Beautiful drive both ways.

We had about two minutes of full eclipse there. It was very, very good – nothing but blue skies for the whole hour+ of the event.

My pictures were…just OK. But I have the memories locked down. Here’s my best full eclipse shot.

This next shot was via iPhone during about 95% totality. It ended up looking pretty cool. You never really know what a digital camera with onboard processing is going to do to an image.

Finally, the headline shot above the post’s title is from Texas, by way of Mexico. My friend Corey (in Mexico) has a TX friend who sent him the shot. It’s a keeper.

Dog catches bus

Well, this is a day. I wake up to learn that Coach Cal is on his way to…Arkansas? Didn’t see that coming. And there’s an eclipse today. And oh yeah, the NCAA men’s championship is tonight.

So all us UK fans yelling for Cal to leave (including me, and I’m happy with the news), we’re the dog and we just caught the bus. So now what? Or more to the point, who?

This isn’t good news for the players UK is/was hoping to retain, like Shepherd. Their smart move is to wait and see who is named UK’s coach, but it’s yet another layer of uncertainty in their decision. And the high school recruits Cal has lined up? I expect them to run for the door unless UK announces a five-star coach fast. Someone like Billy Donovan or, god help us, Dan Hurley. Donovan would be my #1 choice, and I don’t see what Hurley has to gain by moving from Uconn to UK. But we’re gonna need a *name* or we run the risk of a decade of rebuilding.

So the one-and-done era of Calipari basketball is over at UK, and when I say it like that I’m 100% relieved. His approach was great for players, great for future NBA stars to get a year of college ball and prove their bona fides, but terrible for fans. The worst.
