It’s a travel day. Clean up and close up the house, run a few last minute errands, pack and trundle onto Southwest. Lots of good memories and some weird weather – a few days at 20 degrees and a few days at 80 degrees. The local flora must be confused.
Yesterday’s 80 degree day and trip to the zoo was a highlight. Wish both grandsons could have been there, but…school.

I finished the Patricia Cornwell book Chaos, and it triggered all kinds of thoughts about writing. She is wildly successful as an author, yet her style breaks pretty much every rule that my mentor Dave Putnam teaches. In this book she has a meandering, hard to read dissertation for 95% of the book, then everything happens in the last 5%. She does a great job tying together all the plot points in that last 5%, but it was hard to stick with it for that very late payoff. For me the payoff was late in two ways – I ended up reading the final bits at 3am.
