Whale breath

First night in Cabo, and I spent it with the door open, listening to whales breathing right offshore. The sound has a wonderful rhythm – first you hear the wave crashing, then silence as the water flows back. During that silence you can hear whales blow, all night long. It was really peaceful.

The whales are showing new behaviors this year. Cruising right up against the shore, for one. Closer than we’ve ever seen them. Another new behavior is sticking their heads up out of the water, full vertical, and taking a look around. It’s as if they’ve discovered people and are curious. Turns out there’s a word for that, courtesy of brother Mike. It’s called spyhopping.

I brought the Mongo Lens out yesterday evening. Haven’t processed the pictures yet, though here’s an iPhone pic of this morning’s true tequila sunrise. Ice cold Herradura, as a matter of fact.
