It’s Day 1 of the NCAA basketball tournament, the round of 64. There are a couple of games on TV every hour starting at 9:15am here on the Left Coast, so whatever writing I get done will be with background hoops. UK plays at 4pm, so my sanity is safe for at least that long.
The Oakland coach said some unflattering things about UK, and our team seems to have noticed. I hope that fires them up enough to play at their full potential. At their best, they can beat anyone.

Sad news – one of my favorite science fiction authors, Vernor Vinge, died yesterday. I’ll never forget reading A Fire Upon the Deep. I may have to re-read it soon – I have a copy somewhere on my bookshelf. He was also a professor at San Diego State University, so a big loss to two communities.

Only four more days until the Bloated Orange Thing has to pay up or declare bankruptcy. Will he forfeit Trump Tower? Will a hostile nation or an actual billionaire buy him? Will someone in the judiciary rescue him at the last second? Will his idiot donors keep sending money? Monday should be an interesting day.
