Spent the day yesterday at beautiful Rough River Lake. It’s only 75 minutes from Louisville but it feels like a world away. I looked at lake properties and boats – didn’t find anything suitable, but I sure liked the area. Healthy looking lake, tree and limestone cliff lined, a mix of narrow passages and larger coves – classic KY lake.
I did see this guy at one of the properties – big ole bull snake (not entirely sure of his exact species, but bull snake is my guess).

He disappeared into a crack in the house siding – needless to say, I didn’t buy that place.
The cicadas were loud everywhere at the lake. A constant, not unpleasant buzz. At times their noise would resonate resulting in a dramatic increase in volume.
Turns out my budget for a lake place only fits properties with some kind of tragic flaw – too small, or in bad condition, no view, and/or with difficult lake access. I would have to spend more like $400-500K to get what I think I want, and that’s too much for something we’ll only use a few times each year. So…it’s probably going to be AirBnB and the occasional boat rental.
I’ll still look for some lake property, but likely just land. Something to drop an Amazon container house or a camper on.
